Transitional Geneva

Life sucks when friends leave town. I am sure you can tell - I had a very good friend leaving this morning and that is for good - of course due to new adventures in other parts of the world. Sure, we will be in contact with Internet and phone but it is not really the same thing.

Going to a new place is always great - you get to know a new city or country, find the great little cafés and restaurants, - and learn a new language maybe a completely new bureaucracy!

However, I do find that is hard to stay behind - of course I am saying this as I recall how hard it was when I moved to Switzerland (not such a great adventure in the beginning) Not able to find an apartment, not knowing all the papers you needed to apply for one. Did not quite understand the pace of the new city or why it was so difficult to get any service (in restaurants that is). I do now - just not a word in the Swiss vocabulary.

Well I guess after 5 and half years I know my way around town - I have gotten use to not giving tips at restaurant - and that most things are closed on Sundays. That nobody will help you in a shop if you do not say Bonjour first! That speaking some French makes your life easier. That your neighbours will call the police before they tell you that your are playing the music to loud!

Well my point it - it looks so attractive to move on and then again do you want to go though the hassle?
